Haven't played for about 2 Years, just a few Q's :)
Good afternoon all, I just joined up here and have a few questions to ask before my GW Complete Edition gets delivered within the next few days!
As the title says, I used to play a couple of years ago, before any expansions were released, and ended up loosing my ambition to play...But now its back and I can't wait to play all of the new content. I used to play quite a bit of PvP, back in the days of chain lightning spike builds, trap spikes and of course, the most hated; IWAY! Oh the fun. And in terms of PvE, the most common farming run I used to do was farming the Drakes in one of the early missions, but I can't remember the name shockingly, as I used to bleed that mission dry for golds! But anyway, I wanted to ask, as I want to get back into PvP, what would be the best character build to complete the game with first, in terms of Primary and Secondary. I'm thinking Monk/Mesmer at the moment, but as I haven't been keeping track of the skill updates or any new characters that have been added, all I know is Ritualist and Assassin, are there any other new characters and/or skills I should know about!? I just basically want to go through the game, then I can change my secondary until I get all of the skills I wish to get, to get myself back into PvP before I start another PvE character. So any tips from experience or anything would be a great help Thanks in advance, I hope to get posting around here even more soon! Last edited by aQuIline; Sep 19, 2008 at 01:01 PM // 13:01.. |

I am playing a Monk as my main character and love it. Mo/Me is great and you can change it later anyway. If you are starting 'fresh', a most important question is in what order to play the three campaigns and the expansion.
Since the EotN expansion has quite a bit of skills that are non-profession specific, I would advise to get there as soon as possible. But then Nightfall has the advantage that you can take heroes - also to Prophecies and Factions. Therefore you should keep Prophecies and Factions last. I like to run a triple necro setup for my heroes and you need to get some skills from Factions for that. So maybe do Nightfall first, then EotN, then Factions and then Prophecies. |

Hi Tvalentijn! That's great, so Nightfall first, from which I can mission with Heroes...And do I get more Monk skills from Nightfall too?
Can I ask what you mean by a triple necro setup? What level are the heroes, and are they like the usual henchman? Thanks for the swift response Edit: And another question I have, it might be a silly one, but with buying the Complete Edition, does that mean I can play the original GW as well? start in wutever campaign u think has the coolest lookin charas
travel between campaigns is very early on in the game and is very easy to do (which means yesh, u can play the original gw as well) and personally thats factions for me and personally i wouldnt worrie bout the triple necro at this point but its basically runnin 3 necro heroes for easy-mode and from teh post, i get that u like pvp more than pve? back in the day, teh pvp options for chara creation werent that good but now they're pretty decent its viable to jus have a pvp chara, and build it up thru there instead of havin to make a pve chara new to nf was hero battles u can do daily tourneys to get reward points to outfit ur pvp chara lastly, wiki.guildwars.com www.pvxwiki.com |

That's fantastic, thanks and hello Snaek!
Okay so it's fairly easy and up to the player where and when you want to switch to and from core/expansions which is good, obviously past pre-searing I'm guessing. Yeah I do favour PvP compared to PvE, and that's a point about the Balthazar points, I completely forgot about that aspect! My goodness it's been a while since I've played. So they've added more PvP options to gain more Balthz' points, which helps. I loved PvPing so that is a bonus to me, thanks for the help Snaek! |

as well...if you just wanted to do PvP as your main focus, you could always just make a PvP only char and buy the skill unlock packs to open up all the skills.
Or you can unlock most skills with balz faction. |

While you will need Balthazar Faction to purchase upgrades/mods for your weapons and runes/insigna for your armor, you can get all the skills for PvP by buying the PvP Skill Pack in the on-line store (from your character selection screen).
By the way, that reminds me that you will have missed the change to armor. It no longer comes with +energy or +health or +armor vs x. All armor is now purchased for the skin and insigna are added to give you the additional bonus you desire. You can still add runes as you desire. In fact, we have new runes that give you health or energy. Also, the wiki(s) are complete and active; we have two. Original - http://guildwars.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page New - http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Main_Page The new one is also available in-game through F10, help on menu or /wiki in chat. (Old wiki had licensing problem and couldn't accept ANet offer of server space.)

Thank you very much to the last three posters, the information is great, and my GW has been delivered today and is currently installing!
I will give that PvP Skill Pack a look Darcy, thank you! That is quite interesting about how Anet have changed the armour system, 15k armour was the best we could get back in the day, and silver was the best colour you could change it to! (And yeah if your wondering about the overuse of the letter U in armour and colour, it's because I'm from the UK :P) Thanks for the information Daichu, will definitely be doing some PvP to get some Balthz' unlocks. And Oebela, I will definitely be checking out that link when I get to that point, hopefully it will quicken my process in completing the game! |

Don't know why no one posted this, but:
Since you used to play few years ago, you must have an old account, right? Add your new CD-key to that old account, then you can play the new content with your existing characters. And you might even have some birthday presents waiting for you. Last edited by take_me; Sep 20, 2008 at 01:15 PM // 13:15.. |
